![]() | Program GoalsClick here to register for this eventIn its various forms and presentations, cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one cause of death worldwide. Although numerically less important, nevertheless renal disease, consisting of renal impairment leading ultimately to renal failure, is also an important cause of morbidity and mortality. What has been largely underappreciated are the ways that these two disease processes interact, both biologically and physiologically, as well as in the disease process and progression of a patient who presents with either, often as a prelude to having both. Since increasing clinical trial evidence has found that in addition to the diseases complementing each other, in like manner the best evidence-based treatment for CVD is also effective in CKD patients, and a greater understanding of this by physicians would be of great benefit to patients.
